Red Lipstick and Heavenly Signs: Honoring Michele

A Season of Faith, Healing, and Remembering

By Together at Peace

This Mother’s Day, we’re honored to share the story of Michele—a woman whose light continues to shine five years after her passing. Her daughter, Molly, has graciously allowed us to share a glimpse of her radiant spirit. Michele was many things—a devoted mom, a master in the kitchen, a fierce Family Feud competitor, and, according to Molly, “the world’s best friend.”

Michele lived boldly, laughed often, and loved deeply. She made a party out of everything—from basketball games to dinners around the table—and she passed on that same joyful energy to her daughter.

Molly wears Michele’s red lipstick almost every day—one of the many subtle ways she keeps her close. “It’s like a little piece of her goes with me into the world,” she says. And when life gets busy, when grief feels too heavy, Molly still finds small ways to celebrate her mom—by living fully and loving herself, just as Michele always encouraged her to do.

One of Molly’s favorite signs of connection comes in the most unexpected places: parking spots. “She always got the best ones,” Molly says with a smile. “Now when I find one right up front, I know it’s her.”

Michele also gave Molly her very first book—Eloise—and every visit to the Plaza Hotel in NYC brings waves of love and memories.

“I wear her ring every day. It was a gift from my grandfather to her. It reminds me that her love is still wrapped around me.”

This Mother's Day, Molly is choosing to honor her mom by remembering the little things and embracing the joy that Michele so naturally brought into the world. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be real.

At Together at Peace, we believe that even the smallest gestures—like a swipe of red lipstick or a well-timed parking spot—can hold the power of presence.

Molly Painter, thank you for sharing Michele with us. Her story is a beautiful reminder that love doesn't leave. It lingers—in memories, in traditions, in laughter, and yes, in lipstick too.
